Hace poco recordé el mensaje de Arecibo y descubrí que el artículo de Wikipedia es excelente. La versión en inglés es un poco más completa. Al leer sobre el significado de cada parte del mensaje, decidí que quería una copia impresa para mi casa. En esta entrada de blog describo cómo generé una imagen de buena calidad para impresión.

En el artículo de Wikipedia explican en detalle el significado de cada una de las partes del mensaje (no entro en detalles porque en el artículo de verdad hace una excelente labor). ¡Es muy interesante!
El mensaje tiene una cantidad impresionante de información en tan solo 1,679 unos y ceros (los colores no hacen parte del mensaje original). Algo muy ingenioso es que $1,\negthinspace679=23\times73$ es el producto de dos números primos, entonces hay solo dos formas de organizar esos 1,679 unos y ceros en un rectángulo, y una de esas formas da el mensaje.

Si uno restringe el ancho del texto a 23 caracteres, se puede ver una “sombra” de la imagen de Wikipedia hecha con los caracteres 0
y 1

La imagen de Wikipedia se puede descargar como una imagen vectorial en formato svg (bueno para impresión), pero no me gustaba que tuviera colores. Quería una versión más simple, con cuadrados blancos para los 0
y negros para los 1
. En una breve búsqueda en internet me topé con un código de
Rupert Russell para generar algo por el estilo. Su código generaba un archivo png, que no es tan bueno para impresión, pero después de algunos ajustes al código logré que generara un archivo vectorial svg.
